A Mill has been located here by the Lower Vøyenfall of Akerselva (The river of Aker) since the Middle Age. It belonged originally to Hovedøy Monestry but after the reformation it was taken over by The King. The production by Lower Fall Mill continued until 1979. In all its period it utilized the water; in a long period through a single waterwheel, thereafter by means of turbines and later to the production of electricity.

The environments along this area of Akerselva is scenery for most of the famous Norwegian author Oscar Braathen novels who also have been filmed her. Hens Lovisa's house who is mentioned in the novels lies right across the Beyerbridge before the fall. The area also was an important arena for the growth of female workers rights in Norway.
